Beautiful Paris…
By Andrea Price | August 28, 2008
We arrived yesterday to a very different temperature than we had been used to, cool, showers and only 18 degrees… we can already feel our tans fading. In spite of the dreary looking weather, Paris is still absolutely stunning and everything that everyone tells you that it is.
Another couple of great Amercian comments right as we left Venice….
Says a girl walking along the street, ¨i’m soo full, but i just want American size meals for once…¨
Then the big loud Amercian woman sitting behind me on the flight over to Paris ¨do you serve hot dogs, i just want some normal food¨ This is while we are being served with turkey, roasted vegetables and quiche for lunch on the plane…… hysterical.
We arrive (after we again get lost, clearly not getting any better as we go along with our direction sense) to a large, for Paris size, apartment that has a kitchen, lounge and is literally 50m from the Louvre. Off we go to explore as we always do and get our bearings. Walk around a bit and stumble upon a little supermarket that stocks french wine, all kinds of beer and yep you guessed it CHAMPAGNE!!!!!! Back to our room for our first version of a parisian picnic - biscuits, salami, proscuitto, the smelliest brie I have ever known (and this is from a supermarket??!!) and a big bottle of fine french champagne. Well, the supermarket variety anyway. I can happily report that supermarket champagne is better than most we get at home, and there is nothing like opening a bottle of real french stuff.
Today we have shopped - again - and worked out our plan for the next 5 days. Must say it feels like quite a luxury to be able to unpack and plan our days with leisure. Breakfast was the first taste of the cafe lifestyle, on the pavement with coffee, oj and croissants. We are off now to some highly recommended boulangerie’s to stock up on pate, cheese and assorted goodies. I’m sure I can convince Mat to fit in another bottle or two of champagne - come on I’m in Paris!
