Hi everyone: It’s Sunday night and this is our last night at the lodge. It’s been a couple of days since I got a chance to write. We do many hikes daily. We get waken at 05:45 and on our first walk at 06:00 and we have seen many birds and wild pigs, the mouse deer, the sambar deer.
One of the highlights for Steve and I was to lay on the ground and photograph the rhino hornbill. One of the most beautiful birds on the planet, equal to the tucan. After breakfast we go again at 0915. Then lunch and at 3;15 another walk, then super and an evening or a night walk or drive. They are very interesting as we get to see the night animals. I have taken pics of snakes and frogs. Today was an amazing day. we took it easy a bit and still saw lots of stuff.
Steve and I hiked up to a waterfall and swam in the pool all afternoon. Mark, you would have loved it. My favorite insect is the ball millipede, as soon as you touch it, it rolls into a ball like a transformer. and the shell is perfect and inpenitable. My least favorite is the tiger leech. I have had many on me but only lost blood to two. We walked back and the others found a huge male orang-utan. With the help of a tracker we found it right out side our cabin sleeping in his nest high in the trees. We leave tomorrow so we will get up and wait for him to rise and hopefully we can get some pics before we have to go.
Tomorrow we go snorkeling at Mabul island. Steve is so excited.
