Traditional End of the Year Fair will have two homes this year
By Melvin Pereira | December 29, 2007
For as long as I can remember, the traditional end of the year fair has always been in Zapote. This is how over the years this fair has come to be known as the “Zapote Fair”. However, this fairground has become quite small for the growing demand of attractions and the public in general.
This year, the public will be able to choose between two different places to head out and enjoy rides, concerts, food and much more.
La Guacima, out in the province of Alajuela, is mainly known for its racetrack and lately for hosting some of Costa Rica’s largest concerts. The management of La Guacima has decided to use this property as an alternative for the fair.
As in Zapote, La Guacima has built their bullring for the traditional Costa Rican Bullfights (even though no fighting or killing of the animal happens). La Guacima will also introduce attractions divided by different areas:
- Bullfights and Cowboy Zone
- This will take place at the Bullring area which has a capacity for 4,000 spectators.
- A “Costa Rican Bullfighter Championship” in which the first place winner will take a brand new car home.
- Traditional Costa Rican Party Zone
- Mascarades
- Traditional Cimarrona Bands
- Traditional Games and Food
- Live Music
- All types of concerts with national and international bands
- Adventure Zone
- Paintball
- Canopy
- Acrobatic Jumps
- Climbing Wall
- Mechanical Bull
- Traditional End of the Year Party Zone
- Bars
- Traditional Fair Food
- Mountain Bike Circuits
- Fair Rides featuring a spanking new Roller Coaster

The Fair at La Guacima will start Saturday December 22nd and the Zapote fair will keep its start date of December 25 and will end January 6th, 2008.
